Filomena has cared for dogs for 40+ years. Her first job in New York City as a young teen was as a professional dog walker. She continued to expand her knowledge in pet care by working with several veterinarians (large and small animals) as a technician and kennel manager.
She has been training both ends of the leash for over 20 years as an advocate of “Pawsitive Learning” and innovator of “matter of fact” dog training. She was inspired to focus on behavioral issues by a Rottweiler named Buddy… Her need to understand him and the complexities of canine behavior continue to motivate Filomena.
Filomena started and has been running Doggy Dude Ranch since 1990. She was the first doggie day care in the area, as well as the first to accept and care for all breeds. Doggy Dude Ranch was innovative in cage free and “less stress” care and management for all breeds. Dog safety is her number one concern. Canine health, nutrition and enrichment are her passions. She also loves dog sports such as agility, rally, and dock diving. She attends and enters events in these sports as often as possible with her own pack as well as client’s dogs.
She continues her education by attending conferences in dog training and pet care – learning from Ian Dunbar, Dr. Sophie Yin, Jean Donaldson and Susan Garrett to name a few. She is professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the Dog Gurus, Behavior Education Network ,Women in the Pet Industry Network. And is working toward credentials in canine water therapy, rehabilitation and fitness.

Team Doggy Dudes is an amazing crew dedicated to one ideal – Every pet here is somebody’s baby!
Our team comes from all levels of education and different parts of the country, but they all share one thing in common – they come to Doggy Dude Ranch with a love of dogs and a desire to work with them. Since we care and play with all breeds of dogs – in groups and solo – our training is very important.
We train our team members in stress signs, calming signals, dog body language and the important signs of illness. We also have our own DDR leash techniques to keep your dogs comfortable, safe and easier to handle on leash.
Each team member is tested starting from two weeks to a month after they start with DDR, to assess their skills and to help us provide the best training to our team. Confidence in their knowledge is very important to us, as it ensures your pet receives the best care and experience at Doggy Dude Ranch. The dogs who visit DDR are the best continuing education teachers, because we feel that dogs teach us something new every day.
